Next TMNT movie already has a release date. Pretty exciting stuff. Here's hoping that it'll stand...

Yep, yep. I am just wondering if they are going to take TMNT (CGI) and make it canon, or just pretend like it did not happen. I liked the previous movie, but I heard that many people did not like it too much. It'll be interesting to see what happens.

Although TMNT was supposed to be loosely linked to the previous 3 movies, I imagine this new movie will start out fresh and new, ignoring all that's come before it storywise. I'd like it if they plan out sequels in advance so we get a cool, continuing story. I hate when sequels are just made up as they go along. That's when they turn into stinkers.

I think the 2007 movie was more like a continuation of the 2k3 cartoon canon over anything.
I mean, it's got Karai, the rivalry between Leo and Raph, it even talks about at the end how they would bring Shredder back (considering Shredder was in that frozen asteroid), and he was brought back for Turtles Forever (but not by Karai, lol). In the original movie canon it's implied that Shredder doesn't survive the falling bridge (but he survived a pulverizer?)
So this movie IMO would be a reboot and a new canon... I kinda dislike reboots because if the audience is not convinced, no sequel. And they've been working on this project since when, 2009?
btw, did I miss something? I thought Michael Bay was directing this. O.o

Yeah, but Leonardo and Raphael have had a rivalry throughout the live-action movies, too. Raph and Leo argued through the first movie about Leo being the leader, and it is implied that their relationship had always been strained because of that. And, Shredder coming back would be a great shock at the end of the movie if they had believed him to be dead since the second movie, hence their reaction.
I could be wrong, but I guess I am saying that I can see it both ways...
Anyway, Michael Bay is changing the TMNT origin, along with the title. It will just be known as the "Ninja Turtles" and not the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles." And, the turtles will be aliens. Very different.
Source for title. Last sentence of the article informs the reader about the aliens.

I think the entire turtle multiverse is exploding over this stuff. I hate to hate something without knowing that much about it, but I do have to agree with the community at large on the point that the info that's been coming out doesn't sound promising thus far... But like I said, I won't pass judgement until I've seen it, here's to keeping optimistic, yay!

Aliens? No no, no. They're mutants. And teenagers. Come on, Mr. Bay. Get it right.

I like to think it as... The Turtles were mutated because of alien ooze, so they're part alien or something. ... But that's REALLY optimistical for a Michael Bay movie, so I'll take the safe side and say he's just messing the source material... I could have sworn Peter Laird was co-directing the movie, how is he allowing this? In the end, I won't resist the urge to see another Turtles movie, with or without M.B.

I believe he is working with Michael Bay, which is my hope that the story will not leave the original roots too much. But, who knows. I'm disappointed about the Turtles being of alien origin, but I'll be optimistic and hope it will help revive the TMNTs. Or the NTs now... Plus, the new tv show comes out soon too, right?[/size]

I'm very sad about the whole alien thing, but I'll try to be optimistic...I just don't understand how Peter Laird can allow Bay to do that and allow his beloved turtles to be sold over to Nickelodeon...I really think he's making lots of mistakes....The good thing is that both Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman seem to be attached to the project , here's hoping they make something good outta the whole thing.

I'll try to look at it on the bright side...
MAYBE, Bay's direction will help make the Turtles relevant for this new generation. Maybe mutants are a thing of the 90's and early 2k's which have failed to come over into the >2010s.
So, best case scenario, the Turtles become famous once more. Bay somehow managed to make Transformers relevant again, maybe he can do even better with the Turtles.
Yeah, I'm not too happy with the whole "alien turles" thing, but... let's be honest, they've done a little worse with the franchise. *points at Venus, and her show altogether*.

So, have you heard the news? Megan Fox will be April O'Neil in the movie. Here is a link that states why she will make a good april. Link! But, I'm going to be honest. I'm pretty upset. We all know why she is being cast. Sex appeal. The movie will target an audience that it normally wouldn't. I'm still keeping faith, but I am just disappointed that she would be cast as April. Comments?
