Hey guys. I know I might be the only person on here that plays MMORPGs, but I wanted to share something with all of you, even if none of you have played this game.
I have been playing City of Heroes, a superhero comic MMO, for around seven years now. The CoH community is very close to my heart, and it has been my second online home. And exactly two weeks ago, NCSoft (the publisher) has decided to completely shut it down by November, along with Paragon Studios (the development team). It broke my heart when I heard it from my girlfriend, who I met on the game. So much so that I haven't been online since. I cried when she told me.
However, the CoH community is close-knit. We have been doing our hardest to get NCSoft to reconsider. We have mailed them and emailed them with our heartfelt stories. We have logged in JUST to rally at Atlas Park (a zone in-game) in one server. The Rally was so large that the server (Virtue) filled up (around 4k people), and had a queue for an additional 300 waiting. And they had to create more Atlas Park instances just to fit everyone in there. I think it was over FIFTEEN instances of JUST Atlas Park. And THEN it flowed over to another server. We have even donated money to buy the people at Paragon Studios a nice dinner at a resturant they frequented. It took only a mere three hours to gather up a thousand dollars, enough to feed the entire team. We have even gotten over ten THOUSAND people to sign a petition to NCSoft. And that was in just one day. Several thousands have signed it since then.
And we are STILL working, STILL doing our best to make a change. We are now working on sending in real, physical masks and capes to NCSoft, to show them how many heroes there still are. Along with many other projects.
City of Heroes, and its community, has helped me to become the person I am today. It has helped me mature at a young age. It has helped me fly free in the skies when I've had a bad day. I have met my closest of friends on there. Me and my DAD play. It was the first MMO we played together. It's the only way we have to bond and connect since I moved out. We even got my mom into it for a while. And my sister. And my brother. And several other people. I have found a family in the community. And I will not give up Paragon City easily.
We are heroes, this is what we do.
