I've never written a review for a game series before, so bear with me
I just got into this series, and it's very addicting. -Very- addicting. I, personally have always loved the Harvest Moon games. And this is just... Better.
For those of you who dont know... Harvest Moon is an old series. Usually, the object of the game is to grow a farm, get married to the girl you want, become friends with the townsfolk, and live happily ever after.
However, lately, some Harvest Moon games have been getting a bit more in-depth with a main story-line. Such as saving the Harvest Goddess from eternal slumber, or the such.
And then, there's Rune Factory.
Rune Factory takes the classic 'build a farm, get married' concept from Harvest Moon... But adds fighting monsters, and an RPG factor into the mixture.
You have stats like in any classic RPG (STrength, Vitality, that sorta stuff), and you can level up by fighting monsters. You also have
'skills.' Such as farming, fishing, combat, and cooking. And the farther you increase these, the more proficient you become at it (it takes less energy). You increase them by.. Well, doing it. Become better at fishing by fishing, become better at farming by farming... Practice makes perfect
There's also a skill that I dont think I've ever seen in any Harvest Moon games. And that's forging/crafting. You can forge/craft new weapons, tools, and armor, and upgrade them through ore you aquire. Whereas in Harvest Moon, you usually always simply buy better tools.
And in Rune Factory Frontier (The one for the Wii), there's a main story-line as well. (I dunno about Rune Factory 1 or 2 for the DS, since i havnt gotten far at all in those games). The end-goal in Frontier is simple: Stop a giant floating island, shaped like a whale (named Whale Island), from crashing into the town directly below, along with you and a whole slew of townsfolk. How you go about doing this, I'll leave you to find out
All in all, this is a fantastic series. I recommend it to any of you guys, especially if you adore Harvest Moon like I do. Rune Factory 1&2 are for the DS, and Rune Factory Frontier is for the Wii. There is also Rune Factory 3 coming out for the DS on November 8th.
Seriously, guys. Try it out.
